Opossums During the Spring

Opossums can be a big problem for homeowners. They go through your garbage and get trash all over your lawn. They like to make their homes in bushes, sheds, and abandoned burrows of other animals. They aren’t picky eaters, gnawing on anything that remotely resembles food. Opossums can rip up your lawn looking for grubs and may break into your attic or basement while looking for a shelter. They are expert climbers and can utilize trees and hanging branches to easily get onto your roof.
In the Spring, opossums can breed and create offspring, anywhere from 1 to 13 per litter. One opossum is bad enough, let alone a small army of them. As the only marsupial in North America, newborn opossums will be carried around by the mother until they mature. Opossums can often be the carriers of harmful and potentially fatal diseases such as: leptospirosis, toxoplasmosis, salmonella, and tuberculosis. It is extremely rare, but possible, for opossums to contract rabies.
We specialize in the humane removal of raccoons, opossums, and other pests in the New York New Jersey area. For a complete inspection and evaluation please contact us or call us at 718-227-7227 and we will be happy to make an appointment at your convenience.
