Raccoons: Located Everywhere, Threats to Everything

bigstock-Tailless-raccoon-looking-back--26747381Raccoons are known to create devastating damage on residential and commercial property alike. In the wild, raccoons tend to live in hollow trees, logs and caves near rivers, lakes and streams. These rural areas raccoons will raid poultry houses, feed on farm crops and even kill young lambs and goats. In urban areas, raccoons seek an environment similar to their native habitat, such as attics, chimneys, crawl spaces and building walls. An urban area provides food scraps, pet food, bird feeders, lawn grubs, gardens and garbage.

Commercial buildings also fall victim to the wrath of raccoons. Using the tremendous dexterity of their front paws, raccoons have been known to climb buildings and tear shingles and siding for entry. This previously occurred to business owner now familiar with New York-New Jersey Wildlife Removal. Once inside, the raccoon fell through the drop ceiling, ripped papers, chewed wires, ate through an interior wall and stained the carpet with feces. The business was forced to relocate after the property owner could not guarantee it wouldn’t happen again.

Don’t let your property suffer a similar catastrophe. Let NY-NJ Wildlife Removal immediately respond to remove the threat and provide guidance on how best to protect your property from animal infiltration. Additionally, we suggest checking your insurance policy. Unlike damage from rodents and other vermin, most commercial and residential insurance policies cover damage from raccoons. This is because raccoons are members of the bear family, which is not under the rodent/vermin exclusion of most insurance policies. However, unlike bears, raccoons do not hibernate when faced with extremely harsh weather.
