Raccoons and Swimming Pools

Raccoons are common problems in North America.  In addition to rabies, these pests can spread several diseases and germs to humans.  Even if you don't have a raccoon infestation within your home, it's important to be aware of raccoon families that might be present on your property.  While usually harmless, homeowners with pools should be very cautious as raccoon feces in and around a pool can cause the spread Baylisascaris Procyonis.  These microscopic eggs of a dangerous worm can easily infect humans, and if left untreated, it can cause a severe and irreversible neurological illness.
